14. Photos from Ionian

After Corfu, a beautiful overnight stop on anchor on Paxos

Then a brief trip into the salt water lake on the mainland, that is the Gulf of Amvrakia, where fish farms abound...

Octavius Augustus built a HUGE games arena nearby at Nicopolis to mark on of the decisive victories which determined the direction the Roman empire would expand next - the Actian games were then held here for hundreds of years

When we weighed anchor we found this wierd, gloopy critter had grown OVERNIGHT. Any ideas what it is, anyone?!

Lefkas island is separated from the mainland by an ancient canal; the bridge opens on the hour.

First stop on Levkas was this kinda wild-west town, called Nidri, which is also a tourist magnet, though now out of season

West of Nidri runs a spectacular gorge - completely dry! This little dog was our friend and guide for an hour or so as we hiked up the gorge, to a tiny trickle of a waterfall. Why???!

My dream had been for a week's windsurfing in Vasiliki which has a charm all of its own, but sadly no wind!

Hey ho; back to sailing the boat then! (It's tough, but someone has to do it)

Our first stop on the north west of Cephalonia (as in Captain Corelli's mandolin) was at this super little village, called Assos.

John and Midge owned this HUGE cat - Calico, all 58 foot of her. That's the Venetian fort we climbed to, the previous evening.
