Dahab and 25th anniversary!

After ancient Egypt, we head for Dahab on the east coast of the much-contested Sinai peninsula...

... to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary

... in a great little hotel, with this view!

I had promised Brenda we would be diving in the Red Sea on that day- so we did!

The fabulously varied coral and hundreds of fish species are absolutely amazing.

That’s a puffer.

The reef  table is a vital part of the overall marine environment, to be treated very carefully – many don’t!

The colours are breathtaking.

We just snorkelled, but there’s so much to see near the surface we didn’t care ...

Like this large parrot fish.

Ashore every night there’s a wonderful range of fresh fish from the Red Sea to be sampled.

An eager audience is not far away.

Taking an apple flavoured sheesha pipe after dinner is really nice, occasionally.

We had a sunset ride up in the arid hills.

Windsurfing is also fabulous, right outside our hotel – that’s (almost) me with Saudi Arabia in the distance!

Finally, we took the night trip to climb the 2300m Mt. Sinai (10 commandments!), with a young Bedouin guide ...

We wait patiently for sunrise after the 3 hour climb ...

... along with more than 100 other people – it was spectacular!

The 3750 steps (yes!) lead back down to the ancient monastery of St. Katherine ...

... where this is supposedly the actual "burning bush".

We leave Dahab after 6 happy nights + one on the mountain – plenty to see en route back to Port Said...

Camels really do seem happy anywhere!

Very strange seeing huge ships sliding up the Suez canal through the desert – towards Deep Blue and then 4 more people on board for the passage back to Rhodes!
